The 2015 Napa Valley Merlot
Eight months removed from our fall release it is about time we dove into its awesome details. It is still hard to believe that we have a had so many killer vintages back to back to back… to back! Since 2012 and the beginning of the drought here in California we have been able to ride a pretty good wave of solid grape growing years and 2015 was no exception.
Walter Raymond told me one time that, “A winemaker’s favorite wine is always the last one that was released.” It was a statement that I was skeptical of until our drought years started to set in. We have seen an awesome range of nuance from each of the past few drought vintages and I have been hard pressed to not dive right into the newest of the bunch.
(The one exception to that is 2011, I will still drink that vintage above all others right now.)
As usual our Merlot has some power right out of the gate with its bright, plush fruit characteristics and is backed up with a solid structure. Compared to the last few vintages the 2015 release is surprisingly approachable at a young age. It does not have the edge that the 2014 vintage had at this stage.
Per usual though our Merlot continues to be our staple and we are pure excited to share this release with you!
